In a distinguished career, Tom Rand has been nominated for an Oscar and BAFTA for his costume designs for A FRENCH LIEUTENANT'S WOMAN directed by Karel Reisz. Other films include THE DUELLISTS directed by Ridley Scott; The SHOOTING PARTY, the last film to star James Mason; ELENI directed by Peter Yates, THE POWER OF ONE and YOUNG TOSCANINI starring Elizabeth Taylor and Phillipe Noiret and directed by Franco Zeffirelli. More recent films include THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO directed by Kevin Reynolds and UN PONT ENTRE DEUX RIVES directed by Gerard Depardieu. West End theatre credits include HOLIDAY directed by Lindsay Anderson; WHAT THE BUTLER SAW; ALWAYS; Edward Albee's THREE TALL WOMEN starring Maggie Smith; A LETTER OF RESIGNATION. At Manchester Royal Exchange he has designed sets and costumes for AN IDEAL HUSBAND; MOONSTONE and THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST. He has frequently worked with Harold Pinter, designing costumes for THE HOTHOUSE; TWELVE ANGRY MEN; TAKING SIDES and the world premier of ASHES TO ASHES as well as the sets and costumes for A KIND OF ALASKA directed by Karel Reisz and THE BIRTHDAY PARTY; THE LOVER and THE COLLECTION. His recent theatre credits include designing the costumes for WILD SWANS at the Young Vic and American Repertory Theater; RELATIVE VALUES in the West End, Fiona Shaw in MEDEA directed by Deborah Warner in Dublin, London and on world tour, BOSTON MARRIAGE directed by Phyllida Lloyd a No 1 tour of QUATERMAINE'S TERMS and THE PHILADELPHIA STORY at The Old Vic starring Kevin Spacey and Jennifer Ehle directed by Jerry Zaks. Tom was proud to be represented in the recent HOLLYWOOD COSTUME exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum. Following the V&A, this groundbreaking exhibition was seen in Australia, Europe and North America. He recently designed the costumes for ELEGY FOR YOUNG LOVERS directed by Keith Warner at Theater an der Wein and for Stephen Sondheim's PASSION at the Cantiere Internazionale d'Arte Fesitval, Montepulciano, Italy and costumes for Penelope Wilton as the Queen Mother in the West End production of BACKSTAIRS BILLY for Michael Grandage.
