Phelim is co-artistic director of Improbable Theatre Company. Phelim’s work with Improbable includes devising and starring in the multi award winning 70 HILL LANE; THE HANGING MAN and devising, directing and starring in their shows PANIC, COMA, Keith Johnstone’s LIFEGAME and SPIRIT for the Royal Court. With Julian Crouch Phelim directed and designed SHOCK HEADED PETER, which played in the West End and around the world to massive critical and audience acclaim. He premiered Philip Glass’s SATYAGRAHA in an Improbable / English National Opera / Metropolitan Opera co-production. Awards include Winner Olivier Award Best New Opera Production for Akhnaten Winner Time Out Off West End Best Production for 70 Hill Lane Nominated Outstanding Musical Drama Desk Awards for The Addams Family Winner Manchester Evening News Best Fringe Show for 70 Hill Lane Winner Obie for best show off Broadway for 70 Hill Lane Winner Best Show Cairo International Festival of Experimental Theatre for 70 Hill Lane Winner 2002 Laurence Olivier Award, Best Entertainment for Shock Headed Peter.
